‘Goon’ premieres in Toronto

The Canadian movie Goon held its Toronto premiere on Wednesday night with the stars, writers and director hitting the red carpet.
The movie is directed by Michael Dowse, who also did Fubar and It’s All Gone Pete Tong.
Goon stars Seann William Scott and Liev Schreiber as enforcers – or goons – in a minor hockey league. Scott joins the league after getting into a fight as a spectator. The coach notices him and puts him on the ice – but he’s a brawler, not a skater.
“I could never do what those guys do. I feel like I can take care of myself, but then I started watching all the fights and saw what these guys actually do,” said Scott.
“I prefer the term enforcer,” said Schreiber. “Actually, hockey player. It’s these guys who are big and strong and protect their teammates
Jay Baruchel, who co-wrote the film with Evan Goldberg, also appears in the movie, playing Scott’s best friend.
The film is based on a book about the life of enforcer Doug Smith. Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey was co-written by Smith and Adam Frattasio.
