Jackets trade forward Vermette to Coyotes

The Columbus Blue Jackets traded Antoine Vermette to the Phoenix Coyotes Wednesday in exchange for goaltender Curtis McElhinney, a second-round pick in 2012 and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2013.
The conditional fifth-round pick becomes a fouth-round pick if the Coyotes win a playoff series this season.
Vermette was originally acquired by the Blue Jackets in March 2009 from the Ottawa Senators for a 2nd-round pick and goalie Pascal Leclaire. In 60 games with the Blue Jackets in 2011-12, the 29-year-old has eight goals and 27 points.
McElhinney has spent the majority of this season playing for the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League. In 25 appearances this season he is 10-13 with 3.04 GAA and a .907 save percentage.
