Report: MLB to announce playoff expansion

Major League Baseball is set to announce the expansion of its playoff format from eight to 10 teams per league in time for the 2012 season.
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com announced the report via Twitter, adding that an official announcement from MLB will be made on Thursday.
According to the terms of MLB’s labour deal, an agreement regarding the expansion is required to be made by March 1 or else be postponed until 2013.
The move could be of tremendous help to the Toronto Blue Jays, who have failed to make the playoffs since 1993 playing in arguably baseball’s toughest division, the A.L. East.
