Koe, Fowler join Howard in Brier playoffs

SASKATOON — Manitoba’s Rob Fowler and Alberta’s Kevin Koe have joined Ontario in the playoffs at the Canadian men’s curling championship.
Manitoba and Alberta each won their eighth games of the tournament Thursday.
Fowler capped the preliminary round with an 8-3 record following a 10-4 victory over Northern Ontario.
Alberta is 8-2 with a game remaining at night against Ontario’s Glenn Howard (9-1). That game is for first place in the round-robin.
Koe’s team beat Nova Scotia 8-3.
The top four teams advance to the Page playoff with ties for fourth solved by tiebreaker games.
Jamie Koe of Yukon and Northwest Territories has at least a tiebreaker game at 6-4 with a game remaining at night against B.C.’s Jim Cotter.
Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs (5-5) is still in contention for a possible tiebreaker with a game left against Saskatchewan.
The rest of the field is no longer in contention. New Brunswick’s Terry Odishaw was 5-6 ahead of Brad Gushue of Newfoundland and Labrador, B.C.’s Cotter and Quebec’s Robert Desjardins at 4-7.
Nova Scotia’s Jamie Murphy opened the tournament 3-0, but finished 4-7. Prince Edward Island’s Mike Gaudet finished 3-8 and Saskatchewan’s Scott Manners was 2-8.
