Michelle Yu speaks out after returning home from B.C.

North York teen Michelle Yu, reported missing by her family last week, spoke publicly for the first time Monday, the same day she returned home from B.C.

Yu was reported missing on Tuesday. She later contacted family from B.C. Sunday night.

“I can’t thank you guys enough for all your well-wishes, your concerns, all your prayers, your love and your support. I’d also like to thank the police at 33 division. Your kindness from everybody has shown me how much I’m really loved. And from the bottom of my heart, I’m so sorry for putting everybody through this,” Yu said, outside her North York home, with her parents at her side.

“I’m just so happy to be home with my parents, my friends, I’m just glad to be back.”

When asked why she went to B.C., Yu provided no concrete answer.

“It’s just been a really difficult time and just trying to get through everything right now and just really tired and I just want to thank everybody for everything you guys have done for me,” she said.

Police are now questioning Yu and her family.

“We have to go home, we have to talk to the police first. Thank you,” said Yu’s mother Sharon Yu earlier in the day.

Friends and family grew concerned after Yu, 18, didn’t attend a scheduled Girl Guides meeting Tuesday night and failed to show up for class at York Mills Collegiate on Wednesday morning.

They quickly rallied public support in a bid to locate her, with a Facebook page and Twitter campaign.
