Many people with physical disabilities are being forced to find alternative transportation in Peel Region Monday after TransHelp workers hit the picket line.
Ninety TransHelp workers, including drivers, maintenance staff and mechanics, went on strike Sunday evening after talks with CUPE 966 broke down early Sunday morning.
TransHelp provides transportation to people who can’t access standard public transit buses. During the strike, priority rides will be provided by Blue and White taxi. Customers can book a trip, for no additional fee, by calling TransHelp at (905) 791-1015.
The TransHelp workers joined about 600 Peel social services workers who provide health and child care counselling for single parents and employment assistance. They walked off the job on May 3. Nearly 300 Peel public works employees, responsible for water, sewage treatment and road maintenance, went on strike June 4.
All striking workers are represented by Local 966.
