The 2014 Winter Games start on Feb. 7, which means it’s exactly one year from today.
Canada is optimistic about a significant medal haul next year.
The 22nd Winter Games will be held in the resort city of Sochi, Russia where apparently the winters are much milder than those of Toronto.
Canada won 26 medals at the last winter Olympics in Vancouver.
The Canadian Press has broken down all sports and come up with a prediction of 32 medals for Canada this time around.
According to CP, Canada could get as many as nine medals in free-style skiing.
Patrick Chan leads a strong figure skating team that could add three medals to Canada’s total.
It’s a safe bet that both the men’s and women’s hockey teams will do well, so perhaps add two medals there.
A powerful speed-skating team could collect as many as four medals.
This is the first time an Olympics has been held in Russia since the boycotted Summer Games of 1980 back when Russia was part of the Soviet Union.
