WestJet to decrease number of carry-on luggage

WestJet is decreasing the amount of carry-on luggage allowed on their flights this spring.

Effective Apr. 4, travellers will be allowed one carry-on piece, down from the current two pieces and one personal item.

“Fewer carry-on items will mean more room for everyone’s baggage, and faster and more efficient boarding,” said Bob Cummings, WestJet’s executive vice-president of sales, marketing and guest experience, in a release Tuesday.

Carry-on items, a suitcase, backpack or bag, must be no larger than 21 inches by 9 inches by 15 inches. Personal items include small purses, laptop bags and child restraint devices.

WestJet says carry-on bags that do not fit the size requirements for carry-on luggage must be checked at the baggage counter.
