‘2 Guns’ claims No. 1 spot at weekend box office with $27M

“2 Guns’ shot to the top of the weekend box office.
The Universal film starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg came in first place with $27 million.
The film is based on a graphic novel of the same name and features Washington as a DEA agent and Wahlberg as a Naval Intelligence officer who must team up for an undercover operation involving drug traffickers and the CIA.
“The Smurfs 2,” the weekend’s other major new release, opened in third place with $17.5 million.
The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theatres Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theatre locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by Hollywood.com, are:
