Tim Hortons bringing back classic menu items to mark 50th anniversary

To celebrate its 50-year anniversary, Tim Hortons is bringing back classic menu items from the past five decades and customers can choose which treat will stick around for good.

The Bring It Back online campaign launched on Thursday with the first entry, the eclair.

The cream-filled pastry was a popular item in the 60s but has fallen out of favour, which Tim Hortons said was not uncommon.

The menu has been constantly updated to “suit the evolving tastes and preferences of our guests,” Glenn Hollis, vice-president of marketing, said in a statement.

“With that, some menu items have come and gone, yet we continue to receive requests to bring back beloved menu items,” Hollis added.

“We hope [the campaign] sparks fond memories for Canadians and Tim Hortons employees from coast to coast.”

Each Thursday, five menu items — one from each decade — will be announced online. Once all five contenders are revealed, customers can vote online at TimsBringitBack.ca or on Tim Hortons Facebook page.

The winning item will be announced on May 15, just in time for the company’s official birthday on May 17.

It will return to store shelves later this year.

Earlier this year, the small, but tasty Dutchie Timbit was one of 24 less-popular items Tim Hortons took off its menu in a bid to become more efficient. Gingerbread man cookies and both blueberry and chocolate danishes were also cut.
