Alleged armed bank robber ‘Mummy Bandit’ Brandon Smith in bail court

It was the first appearance in bail court at Old City Hall for the alleged Mummy Bandit.

He started to become very emotional when he met eyes with a relative or friend in the courtroom.

Brandon Michael Smith faces 36 charges involving 16 banks in downtown Toronto between Aug. 2, 2012 and June 20, 2014.

At first it’s alleged he would pass notes to the tellers but the violence escalated involving assaults with knives and guns.

Police allege he stole between $1,000 and $4,000 at every bank.

He was dubbed “The Mummy,” but his disguises changed to “The Joker” and the “Thriller Bandit.”

He’s been charged with: 10 counts robbery with a firearm; two counts of assault with a weapon; nine counts of weapons dangerous; and nine counts of disguise with intent.

He was remanded into custody until to July 11, when he will next appear by video.
