Boy, 15, among 2 dead in Etobicoke double shooting

A 15-year-old boy is among two dead after a double shooting near several schools in the Islington Avenue and Dixon Road area of Etobicoke on Monday afternoon.

The teen died at scene. Another victim died later at hospital. His age has not been released.

Toronto Catholic District School Board trustee Maria Rizzo has identified the 15-year-old victim as a student at James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic High School. His name has not been released.

Police say a person of interest was taken into custody on the grounds of Don Bosco Catholic Secondary School, not far from the scene, but no charges have been laid.

“We believe there’s at least two (suspects),” said Toronto police supt. Ron Taverner.

Police say they are interviewing several witnesses after they received a 911 call at around 12:30 p.m. for a shooting at the rear of 2063 Islington Ave.

The victims were later found in a field at the back of nearby School of Experiential Education at 40 McArthur St. The school was put under a lockdown for several hours.

A witness told CityNews he saw a group of young people running from Don Bosco shortly before the shots rang out.

“At first I thought there was going to be a fight because they were running from Don Bosco,” said Michael Snary, who lives in the area. “I thought there was going to be a fist fight. Next thing you know I heard two gunshots.”

St. Maurice Catholic School, Kingsview Village Junior School, and Don Bosco were all put under hold and secures. They have since been lifted.
