Results of Toronto patient being tested for Ebola expected Friday evening

Whether or not Toronto has its first case of Ebola is expected to be known by 9 p.m. tonight.
A man is currently in isolation at Toronto General Hospital as a precaution, but health officials say there is no reason to be overly concerned and medical professionals from across the country continue to caution there is no reason to panic.
This comes after a man tested positive for the virus in Texas after arriving from Liberia.
Dr. Michael Gardam is Director of Infection Prevention and Control at the University Health Network and he says the patient was put in isolation as a precaution.
“This individual technically fit the criteria as someone who should be tested, although our …suspicion is that they have Ebola virus is really extremely low,” he said.
Dr. Gardam says the best way to protect North Americans from Ebola is to stop the outbreak in Africa.
“I want people to worry about Africa, to help Africa,” he said. “Honestly, helping Africa is the best way to help ourselves.”
