A Mississauga-based door-to-door sales company faces more than 100 charges for violating the provincial Consumer Protection Act.
The Ministry of Government and Consumer Services laid the charges against Ontario Energy Group, which sells air-conditioners, water heaters and furnaces, following a large number of consumer complaints.
Charges laid against the company and its director, Eugene Farber, include using false, misleading or deceptive practices, failure to deliver a valid contract and failure to refund as required by the act.
Each charge carries with it a $250,000 fine for the company while Farber faces a $50,000 fine and up to two years in jail for each conviction.
Farber and OEG are expected to face the charges in court next month in Newmarket.
