Man arrested in violent Lawrence and Morningside sex assault

Toronto police have arrested a man after a woman was violently sexually assaulted, and investigators are concerned there may be more victims.
Police allege the woman tried to escape three times, but each time, she was physically stopped and assaulted.
The woman was talking to a man in a wooded area near Piperbrook Crescent and Ling Road, close to Lawrence and Morningside avenues, on Canada Day.
The 43-year-old woman then walked away. The man grabbed her and sexually assaulted her, police allege.
She broke free and tried to run away. He grabbed her again, forced her to the ground, and sexually assaulted her. She tried to leave a third time, but the man chased her and caught her. He violently sexually assaulted her, police allege.
The woman was taken to hospital.
The next day, on July 2, police made an arrest.
Shamraaj Thavagnanathiruchelvam, 25, is charged with sexual assault with a weapon, threatening death, and obstructing police.
