Toronto police have arrested a man who they say sexually assaulted a seven-year-old boy at Ossington subway station.
Police were called to the area of Ossington Avenue and Bloor Street West around 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
The boy and his mother were going up the escalator near the station entrance when it’s alleged the man assaulted the child and took off.
He may have also grabbed other children, police said.
On Thursday morning, Chitranjan Boyal, 41, was arrested in a store where he was allegedly causing a disturbance.
A witness noticed he was the man pictured in the media, and police verified he was the man they were looking for.
Boyal has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and failing to comply with probation.
He is due in court at Old City Hall on Friday morning.
Const.David Hopkinson says while police are very careful when it comes to disseminating information regarding sexual assaults, the fact that this happened in a very public place and involved vulnerable people, namely children, they felt it necessary to let the public know what was going on immediately.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
Correction: It was initially reported that the boy was eight years old.
