2 injured, 2 arrested in Annex shooting

By News Staff and The Canadian Press

A man and a woman have been arrested after a shooting in the Annex area on Monday night.

Officers responded to a call in the Madison and Bernard Avenues area around 10 p.m. where two to three gunshots were heard.

Investigators allege a 22-year-old man was with a 23-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman and they met an unknown man in an alleyway.

During their interaction, the 22-year-old man was shot.

The 21-year-old woman and the man who was shot tried to flee in a red, four-door Volvo, with the woman driving the vehicle.

While driving away, the vehicle struck a pedestrian and a tree. The pedestrian was not seriously injured.

The shooting victim was taken to hospital in serious condition via emergency run. Police say he is expected to live.

Officers say a firearm was found in the vehicle.

A second vehicle, a white sedan, was also seen fleeing the area. Police say it’s possible the suspected shooter was in the vehicle and could be the unknown man the three met in the alleyway.

Jermaine Hall, 23, from Richmond Hill was not in the Volvo, but was located in the area and taken into custody a short time later. Just after 1 a.m., Drucella Oduro, 21, from Toronto was also taken into custody.

Each are charged with five counts, including possession of a restricted firearm without a licence, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm and careless storage of a firearm. They appeared in court on Tuesday.

Police have not released any further information about the victim and are still searching for the suspected shooter involved in the incident.
