After the horrific attacks at two mosques in New Zealand last week, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada has launched their “visit a mosque” campaign.
Dozens of mosques and prayer centres across the country will be open for visits, including multiple locations in Scarborough, East York, Mississauga, Brampton, and Milton.
The campaign was launched at the ‘Baitul Islam Mosque in Vaughan Tuesday afternoon.
They say vested guards won’t bring security to mosques, but residents who demonstrate love for one another’s freedom.
The “visit a mosque” initiative, they add, gives Canadians the opportunity to meet their Muslim neighbours and friends on a personal level while learning “how Muslims truly live and practice their faith.”
“We believe that ignorance breeds suspicion, fear and anger and familiarity breeds understanding, compassion and love,” said Lal Khan Malik, National President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada.
Last Friday’s attacks in Christchurch left 50 people dead and dozens more injured. A 28-year-old Australian man has been charged in connection with the attacks.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada added they appreciate all the love and overwhelming support they have received from Canadians during this tragic time.
