Pickering house fire sends 1 to hospital with serious burns

One person has been taken to a trauma centre with serious burns after a home went up in flames in Pickering on Monday afternoon.

Pickering Fire says they were called to a residence on York Durham Line and 16th Avenue just north of Highway 407 at around 2 p.m.

The fire has been contained but crews are still battling hot spots.

There’s no word yet on the cause. The Fire Marshall is on scene and an investigation is underway.

Images from the scene show large plumes of smoke billowing from the home.

York Durham Line has been been shut down in both directions.
