Blue Jays, Earth Hour among weekend events in Toronto

By Samantha Knight and News Staff

This is the last weekend of March but it will feel more like summer with the Toronto Blue Jays in town. The weather may not be agreeable, with cooler temperatures and a rain-snow mix in the forecast, but you can still have fun.

Events

Blue Jays opening weekend
Spring baseball is back in the city! The Toronto Blue Jays are kicking off their season with a four-game series against the Detroit Tigers, starting on Thursday, with a 3:37 p.m. home opener. Blue Jays alum and 2018 Hall of Fame inductee Jack Morris will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. There will be various giveaways throughout opening weekend, including a Blue Jays T-shirt on opening day and a Blue Jays hoodie on Saturday. Let’s go Blue Jays!

Toronto Yoga Show
Yogis will be taking over the Metro Toronto Convention centre this Thursday through Sunday, for the Toronto Yoga Conference and Show. The event features over 300 yoga and wellness brand exhibitors and more than 700 hours of world class sessions. There’s also a Yoga Garden, offering free yoga classes, dances and demonstrations.

HideSeek
Relive your childhood nostalgia at the HideSeek pop-up at 1305 Dundas St. W. this weekend. The immersive experience gives guests the opportunity to ‘hide’ from reality and ‘seek’ a world of childlike wonder. Various installations will make you feel like a kid again and help you rediscover your carefree spirit. All ages are welcome. The HideSeek pop-up opens Saturday and runs until June 2.

Earth Hour
#Connect2Earth this Saturday night by switching off your lights and taking part in the 13th annual Earth Hour. The date draws attention to wildlife loss in Canada and around the world. Various Earth Hour events are being held across the city, including candle dipping and lantern making at the High Park Nature Centre, an Earth Hour walk through High Park Zoo, a candle/lantern-lit stroll down Roncesvalles Avenue and a panel discussion about “Imagining the Earth as an Exoplanet” at the Earth Sciences Centre at U of T. Earth Hour begins at 8:30 p.m.

Toronto Reptile Expo
Canada’s longest-running reptile show is setting up shop at the International Centre this Sunday. The Toronto Reptile Expo includes reptile breeders, vendors, live reptiles and amphibians, and education centres to learn about responsible reptile ownership. The expo runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.

TTC service

Partial Line 1 closure
Subways won’t be running on Line 1 between St. Clair West and Union stations on Saturday and Sunday so that crews can install the new Automatic Train Control (ATC) signalling system. Shuttle buses and Wheel-Trans service will be available.
