Gunshot victims arrested in west end shooting incident

Two men in hospital suffering from gunshot wounds are now facing charges in connection with the shooting incident.

Police were called to an apartment complex on Clearview Heights near Black Creek Drive just before 8 p.m. following reports of shots being fired.

Police say one person was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A second victim suffered a potentially life-altering gunshot wound to his spinal cord.

Both men have since been arrested and charged in the incident.

Investigators say the 23-year-old and 19-year-old became involved in a verbal dispute which escalated quickly. They allegedly both pulled out semi-automatic firearms and began firing gunshots at each other.

Police allege multiple stray bullets narrowly missed innocent bystanders. The incident was captured on the building’s security cameras.

Jamil Belfon-Green, 23, of York Region and Jamal Fredericks, 19 of Toronto are both facing several firearm-related charges and aggravated assault.

The men are expected to appear in court when they are released from hospital.
