Elderly woman’s death in Oshawa fire deemed a homicide

The death of an elderly woman after a fire in an Oshawa apartment was a homicide, police say.

Durham police arrested a 56-year-old man in connection with the death of the 84-year-old woman.

Police were called to Nonquon Road just east of Simcoe Street and Taunton Road just after 7 p.m. Sunday.

Crews were able to knock down the fire quickly.

The elderly woman was taken from the apartment to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Her identity has not been released.
