Officials say they’ve received information that a four-year-old boy who Toronto police initially said had died after a hit-and-run Sunday, is still alive.
Police spokeswoman Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook says the hospital initially told officers that the boy had died, but they’ve since been informed by “other sources” that he is still alive. He remains in life-threatening condition.
Police were called to Victoria Park Avenue and Adair Road near St. Clair Avenue East around 1:30 p.m. for a collision.
They say a motorcycle was travelling north on Victoria Park, north of St. Clair Avenue East, when the boy stepped onto the road and was struck by the motorcycle.
“The child was dragged for some distance and eventually the child came to rest on the right side of the roadway and the motorcycle continued to travel northbound,” said Sgt. Carm Zambri.
The boy suffered severe injuries and was in and out of consciousness as he was being rushed to SickKids hospital. He was with a parent when the collision occurred.
They boy’s uncle, Arif Choudhary, tells CityNews the child was bleeding heavily and he drove the boy and his distraught parents to the hospital.
Police say the motorcyclist involved fled the scene and was last seen travelling northbound on Victoria Park.
A female passenger on the motorcycle got off and fled on foot. She is described as a white woman in her 20s with blonde hair. She was wearing blue jeans, a black shirt and white running shoes
The motorcycle is described as red or orange Harley Davidson Road Glide. The driver is a white male between 40 to 50 years old. Police say there will be damage to the front right turn signal of the motorcycle
Security camera photos of the suspects and the motorcycle have now been released. Police are asking witnesses to come forward.
