Toronto police say a woman is facing charges after allegedly uttering racial slurs and assaulting police officers at Nathan Phillips Square on Monday afternoon.
In a video posted on Reddit, a woman is seen near the Toronto sign holding up a placard that says “Vote Andrew Scheer,” directing a racist rant at the man recording.
She is heard yelling and then spitting at the man, repeatedly telling him to “go home,” along with other racially offensive language.
Const. David Hopkinson confirmed to CityNews that police were called to the square around noon for reports of a person assaulting and spitting at people.
He says officers arrived and took a woman into custody but did not confirm it was the woman seen in the video.
Hopkinson says Talya Davidson 28, from Toronto, will be facing one charge of assault and three charges of assaulting an officer.
Conservative leader Andrew Scheer responded to the video on Twitter saying “I don’t know who this woman is, but there is no place in our party or our country for her hateful language. I condemn her behaviour and racist comments.”
