KABUL — Afghanistan’s acting foreign minister, Salahuddin Rabbani, has resigned his post.
In a resignation letter to President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday, Rabbani said the Foreign Ministry has been sidelined and is being treated as a non-governmental organization. “It is unbearable,” he says.
Rabbani began his tenure as foreign minister but later continued in the position as acting foreign minister amid political infighting.
Rbbani said he has witnessed the creation of parallel structures during his tenure in the name of administrative reform, damaging national unity.
There were other differences of opinion between the president and Rabbani and he sometimes was not invited to meetings at the presidential palace.
Rabbani supported Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, Ghani’s opponent, in presidential elections Sep.28. The results have not been announced.
