Man, 28, killed in crash with city bus in Whitby

A 28-year-old Oshawa man has died in a crash involving a city transit bus in Whitby.

Provincial police say they were initially called to investigate at least four hit-and-run collisions involving the same vehicle that occurred on Highway 401 between Simcoe Street and Thickson Road around 7 p.m.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said once the car was off the highway at Thickson Road, it was involved in another crash involving a bus not far off the highway.

Durham police were then called to the scene on Victoria Street near Hopkins Street for a head-on crash there.

The 28-year-old driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene. His identity has not been released.

No passengers were on board the bus at the time of the crash and the driver did not suffer any serious injuries.There were only minor injuries reported in the 401 crashes.

Both OPP and Durham Police continue to investigate the collisions and have not released any factors of the crash.
