TTC introducing pop up vaccine clinics for employees

By News Staff

The TTC is rolling out pop-up vaccinations for its employees as early as Thursday.

The first will be held at the McNicoll garage put on by the Scarborough Health Network.

CEO Rick Leary says the Women’s College Hospital will then organize clinics on Friday and Saturday at Mount Dennis.

The TTC says this is in addition to the 90 percent of employees who are already eligible to be vaccinated because of where they live or their age.

The announcement follows a commitment from Ottawa, Queen’s Park and Toronto to spend more than $500-million to buy new streetcars for the city.

They’ll be made in Thunder Bay at the Alstom plant and should arrive in Toronto starting in 2023.

Mayor John Tory says the money will cover the cost of 60 new streetcars.

“They work well, people like them, we’re proud of them, and when people do come that help to make these and see them on the streets as I see them in Toronto as we speak, they can be proud of this,” said Tory.

“I hope it will lead to sales elsewhere and if I can make a call to the mayor of Edmonton that he should be taking a hard look at this stuff I’ll do just that.”

The government funding will also pay for upgrades at the TTC’s Hillcrest streetcar garage.
