Iconic Massey Hall sign damaged by wicked winds, to be removed for repairs

Some of Toronto’s most famous landmarks were walloped by wicked winds on Thursday, with both the CN Tower and Massey Hall suffering damage in gusts that clocked in over 90 kilometres an hour.

Earlier Thursday glass fell from the CN Tower, forcing police to close streets in the area as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

Later, Massey Hall’s iconic sign was seen dangling precariously.

Crews taped off the area and a team was called in to fix the sign. In order to complete the repairs, a representative told CityNews it would need to be removed.

Toronto was under a wind warning earlier Thursday, but it has since ended.

Massey Hall reopened in late November after renovations saw it shuttered for more than three years.

Canadian music legend Gordon Lightfoot headlined the grand reopening show at the legendary venue at Victoria and Shuter streets.
