Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment is set to donate 1,200 pounds of food to Second Harvest, a Canadian food rescue organization, after the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors games at Scotiabank Arena were postponed.
The NHL paused the season through Christmas Day. The Leafs were scheduled to host the St. Louis Blues Thursday night.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver said the league will not pause despite the fact many clubs — including the Raptors — are dealing with COVID-19 outbreaks and exposures.
The NBA postponed Toronto’s game at Chicago Wednesday night because the Raptors do not have the required eight players available.

A Raptors spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday that forward OG Anunoby has become the eighth player on the team to enter the league’s COVID-19 protocols.
It’s the third game the Raptors have had postponed, along with Monday’s home game against Orlando and a home date with the Bulls on Dec. 13. Toronto is next scheduled to play the Cavaliers in Cleveland on Dec. 26.
On Dec. 19, the Ontario government stipulated that concessions must be closed at indoor venues.
The Vancouver Canucks made a similar donation after their games were postponed over the weekend, donating the food to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank and the Salvation Army.
Second Harvest is the largest food rescue organization in Canada, specializing in food recovery. In 2020, Second Harvest recovered more than 22.3 million pounds of unsold food.
