Toronto man charged with 12 counts of mischief after several TTC elevators vandalized
A 47-year-old Toronto man has been charged with multiple offences after several TTC elevators were vandalized earlier in December, officials say.
“Thanks to excellent heads-up work by #TTC special constables yesterday, a suspect in the recent elevator vandalism spree was arrested without incident and turned over to @TorontoPolice,” TTC spokesperson Stuart Green tweeted on Monday, adding charges were laid and the matter is before the court.
News of charges came after Green told CityNews TTC staff learned about damages to glass elevator side panels at Bayview, Broadview, Chester, Davisville, Jane, Keele, Pape, Queen, Spadina and Sheppard subway stations between 4 and 7 p.m. on Dec. 21.

“This [last night] appeared to be a coordinated effort to damage elevators throughout the system … because of the nature of the damage and the way in which they are damaged, and that’s why we suspect it’s the same person,” he said on Wednesday.
Green initially said various elevators could have been out of service for up to a month, but TTC staff were able to get a temporary fix in place and service was restored.
Toronto Police Const. Laura Brabant told CityNews a suspect in the investigation was found at Broadview station on Sunday and subsequently arrested.
The accused in the case, identified by police as Cardinal Glennie, was charged with 12 counts of mischief under $5,000 and four counts of failure to comply with a release order. He appeared in a Toronto court on Monday. The allegations haven’t been proven in court.
