A Brampton father was able to prevent an alleged carjacking and kidnapping as he moved quickly to stop a man from driving away in his SUV with his 10-month-old baby in the back seat on Sunday.

Police say they received a report of an attempted car theft just after 12:30 p.m. in the area of Herkes and Lockwood roads.

The victim, a 38-year-old man, put his infant into the back seat of the SUV parked in his driveway, closed the door and went inside to get his other child.

In a video posted on Reddit, an unknown suspect is then seen exiting a dark coloured vehicle, running up to the driveway and getting into the driver’s seat of the SUV.

When the man returned to the vehicle and saw the suspect inside, he ran to open the passenger door and confronted him. The suspect then tried to reverse out of the driveway and police say the victim was nearly dragged while still holding his toddler at the time.

The suspect stopped the vehicle at the edge of the driveway and fled on foot into the waiting vehicle he came from while the SUV slowly rolled forward and stopped once it hit the garage door.

Police say no physical injuries were sustained by anyone involved.

The suspect is described as a young male wearing all black clothing.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact police.
