Lightning beat Maple Leafs to win Game 2, even playoff series

The Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-3 on Wednesday to even their best-of-seven playoff series at one game apiece.
Lightning defenceman Victor Hedman had a goal and three assists, while Nikita Kucherov had a goal and two assists. Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy also bounced back for Tampa with 31 saves against 34 shots.
Mitch Marner, with a goal and an assist, Michael Bunting and Alexander Kerfoot replied for Toronto, which got 29 stops from Jack Campbell. Auston Matthews added two assists.
Game 3 of the best-of-seven matchup goes Friday in Tampa.
“They played harder and were more disciplined,” Maple Leafs winger Wayne Simmonds said. “It stings.”
The Lightning, who also lost Game 1 in three of eight series on their way to winning those Cups the last two seasons, took a 1-0 lead on the power play with just 1.4 seconds left in the first period.
Elsewhere around the NHL, the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Boston Bruins 5-2 to take a 2-0 series lead. The Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings, and the Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues are also in action.
The Blues and Kings are ahead 1-0 in their respective series.
