Police identify 20-year-old Pickering man killed in drive-by shooting

Durham police have identified a 20-year-old man killed in a drive-by shooting in Pickering last week.

Officers were called to the area of Taunton Road and Concession Road 4 for a single-vehicle crash just before 12:30 p.m. on May 19.

When they arrived they found the driver with signs of trauma and he was pronounced dead on the scene.

A post-mortem confirmed the cause of death was a gunshot wound. Police have determined the driver was shot while behind the wheel, which led to the crash.

The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Arawin Sapesan, of Pickering.

No suspect or vehicle description have been released at this time.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the crash and may have seen or heard anything or has dashcam footage to contact them.

The homicide unit has now taken over the investigation.
