Police identify shooting victim found dead in Brampton park

Peel police have identified a man who was found dead from gunshot wounds in a Brampton park earlier this week.

Officers responded to a shooting near Bramalea Road and Bovaird Drive around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, but no victims were found at the scene.

About 45 minutes later, they were called to intersection of Heart Lake and Copperfield Road after getting reports of someone driving erratically. The car continued into an area of White Spruce Park where it came to a stop.

Police arrived on the scene to find the victim located outside of the vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as Shem St. Marie, a 23-year-old man of no fixed address. St. Marie was arrested and charged by Peel Police in 2019 after a string of break and enters.

No suspect description has been made available but police believe it is an isolated incident and there is not threat to public safety.

The fatal shooting is Peel Region’s 11th homicide of 2022.
