Durham school under ‘shelter in place’ following bear sighting

A school in Durham Region was put under shelter in place on Tuesday morning after a bear sighting near the building.
The Durham District School Board said Beaverton Public School was put into the protocol as a precaution. The school is located in Beaverton, Ont., in the north end of Durham Region near Lake Simcoe.
The board tweeted the school had been put under a shelter in place before 10 a.m. They say Durham Regional Police and Bear Watch are aware that the animal was spotted in the area.
The doors at the school will remain locked until the protocol is lifted.
