Thunderstorms could put a damper on Canada Day fireworks in Toronto

A chance of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for Friday could put a damper on Canada Day fireworks, but the weather will only get better from there.

Friday’s forecast is calling for a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. CityNews 680 meteorologist Jill Taylor said the storms, especially in the evening, could be severe.

“Some of these storms in the evening could bring very strong wind,” said Taylor. “We have to watch that Friday night for fireworks, that could really interfere with things. We may have some of Mother Nature’s fireworks to deal with.”

The storms will bring the humidity with a high of 29 C expected for Friday, but feeling more 35 C.

Once the storms pass, it will bring a beautiful rest of the weekend. Saturday will see mainly sunshine and a high of 27 C with a slightly cooler low of 18 C.

The sun will continue on Sunday, with a morning low of 15 C, but the temperature will get up to 25 C for the rest of the day.

Toronto’s official fireworks display at Ashbridges Bay Park is scheduled to go ahead for the first time in two years on Friday following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City’s fireworks show at the park starts at 10 p.m. on Friday and is expected to draw large crowds.
