A brazen daytime carjacking on Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway led to a police chase on foot and an arrest.
Toronto police first notified the public of an investigation on the Gardiner near Islington Avenue around 11 a.m. on Monday.
Police sources told CityNews a carjacking was committed when someone riding a bicycle on the highway flagged down a passing motorist. The cyclist then pulled the driver out of their vehicle and drove off.
Responding officers spotted the stolen vehicle, and the driver did a u-turn on the Gardiner and went the wrong way through the ramp on Park Lawn.
Police sources said the stolen vehicle was involved in a minor collision with another car at the ramp. The suspect exited the vehicle and fled into a wooded area, leading to a police chase, ending in an arrest.
Toronto police confirmed with CityNews that a 28-year-old woman was arrested. The carjacking victim was a 70-year-old woman who had her car stolen.
“Once the vehicle stopped, the bicyclist pulled the driver, a 70-year-old woman, out of the driver’s seat and proceeded to steal the car,” Const. Laura Brabant said.

One witness says a cab driver tackled the suspect to the ground before officers arrived on foot. Photos from the scene show police taking someone into custody.
“The female victim of the carjacking was assisted by other motorists, and police were called,” Brabant said.
“Officers from 22 Division and Traffic Services caught up to the suspect on foot and arrested the suspect after a violent confrontation.”
The female suspect was identified as 28-year-old Andrea Moss of no fixed address. Toronto police say Moss faces several charges, including robbery, dangerous conveyance operation, and assault with intent to resist arrest.
The accused was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. One police officer suffered minor injuries as a result.
The Park Lawn ramp was closed but has since been re-opened.
