Mississauga man charged in connection with fatal boat crash near Tommy Thompson

Toronto police have arrested a Mississauga man in connection with a boat crash on Lake Ontario near Tommy Thompson Park back in May that left two people dead.

Just before midnight on May 31, emergency crews were called to the scene after a boat travelling northeast into the harbour area hit a rock island breakwater not far from Ashbridges Bay and capsized.

The marine unit searched the area and rescued eight people from the water.

However, after the boat was lifted out of the water, a 25-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were found dead inside the vessel.

Filip Grkovski, 38, is facing 12 charges including two counts of Criminal Negligence Causing Death, four counts of Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm, two counts of Impaired Operation Causing Death, and four counts of Impaired Operation Causing Bodily Harm.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 4.
