The Royal Canadian Legion and the TTC kicked off their annual poppy campaign on Friday, ahead of Remembrance Day next month.
At Leslie Station, students from Davisville Public School joined veterans who pinned poppies on them to remind Torontonians to wear a poppy in honour of those who have served Canada.
On Remembrance Day, the TTC will pause all service for two minutes at 11 a.m.
On that day, all TTC buses and streetcars will carry a sign that reads “Lest We Forget” and a message will run on all subway platform video screens.
The TTC Honour Guard will also be taking part in the Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph at Old City Hall.
On Remembrance Day, all current members of the Canadian Armed Forces in uniform, as well as war and peacekeeping veterans wearing military service medals or ribbons can ride the TTC free of charge, along with one companion.

One of the new things this year is the availability of biodegradable poppies and wreaths made from natural materials that include paper, cotton velvet, plaster, moss, and bamboo.
People will also be able to scan the poppy on their lapel with their smartphone to read personal stories about veterans through an initiative called Poppy Stories.
Traditional poppy boxes will be available at more than 27,000 locations for in-person donations. People can also make electronic donations via Legion.ca.
The Digital Poppy will once again be available, where people can dedicate a digital poppy and share it on their social media channels.
Today marks the start of the Remembrance period, which runs until #RemembranceDay on November 11.
