Blue Jays trade Teoscar Hernandez to Mariners for reliever, prospect
The Toronto Blue Jays have traded outfielder Teoscar Hernandez to the Seattle Mariners.
The Mariners are sending right-handed reliever Erik Swanson and left-handed pitching prospect Adam Macko to Toronto for Hernandez.

Within the release, Jays note that Macko, who was born in Slovakia, attended Vauxhall High School in Alberta before he was drafted in the 7th round by the Mariners in 2019

Swanson was 3-2 with a 1.68 ERA, 70 strikeouts and 10 walks in 53.2 innings last year with Seattle.
Macko is Seattle’s No. 8 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. He pitched in High A last year.

Macko was born in Slovakia, but moved with his family to Alberta as a child.
Hernandez, 30, hit .267/.316/.491 with 25 homers and 77 RBI in 2022.
In 2021, Hernandez was named an all-star for the first time in his career and captured his second straight Silver Slugger award.
That year, he batted .296/.346/.524 with 32 home runs and 116 RBI.
Hernandez can become a free agent after next season.

The Blue Jays acquired Hernandez from Houston in July 2017 in a deal sending pitcher Francisco Liriano to the Astros.
For his 651-game career, the Dominican is slashing .262/.319/.499 with 133 homers and 380 RBI.
