A 24-year-old man from Brampton is dead, and a passenger is in hospital following a single-vehicle car crash on the QEW near Stoney Creek.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of the crash on the QEW (Toronto bound) near Fruitland Road around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 1.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, left the road surface, and rolled over.

Two occupants were ejected from the car, and a 24-year-old man from Brampton was pronounced dead at the scene.

One passenger, a 27-year-old, was rushed to a local hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. Two other passengers were not injured.

It’s unclear if alcohol was a factor.

Toronto-bound lanes were closed at 50 Road in Stoney Creek for several hours during the course of the investigation.
