3 charged in Oakville murder that left woman with life-altering injuries

Three people, including two from Alberta, have been charged in a murder investigation in Oakville that also left a female victim with life-altering injuries.
Halton police were called to the Belt Lane and Littlefield Road area in Oakville around 1 a.m. on August 19, 2022, following reports of suspected gunshots. Officers located two victims, a man and a woman, that had been shot.
Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was rushed to a trauma centre with serious injuries. Multiple suspects fled the area in a vehicle, authorities said.

The male victim was identified as 27-year-old Arman Dhillon of Alberta. The adult woman, who had been with Dhillon at the time of the shooting, survived but sustained life-altering injuries.

Halton police said with the help of investigators in Peel and Hamilton, three men were arrested in connection with the shooting on Tuesday. They were identified as 30-year-old Joseph Richard Whitlock of Pickering, 29-year-old Karn Veer Sandhu of Edmonton, and 25-year-old Kulvir Bhatia of Calgary.
“This was a terrifying event for the residents of this community. Fortunately, no other persons were injured as a result. The Halton Regional Police Service will relentlessly investigate all acts of gun violence,” said Deputy Chief Jeff Hill.
All three suspects have been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. Police said none of the accused were on a form of release for violent crime at the time of the murder and that the shooting homicide was targeted.
“I would like to thank all those members in the community, both here in Halton and throughout the GTA, who provided information to support this investigation,” Hill added.
