One person is dead after a collision that forced a car into a field in the Brimley Road and Lawrence Avenue East area of Scarborough on Monday morning.
Both Toronto police and fire services arrived on the scene just before 11:00 a.m. after reports of two vehicles involved in a crash where one vehicle went off the road and into a field.
An investigating officer tells CityNews that the driver of a Toyota Camry, a 19-year-old man, was heading westbound on Lawrence Avenue and hit an SUV in the intersection. The driver of the SUV, a Toyota Venza, was trapped and had to be extracted from the car.
A 60-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, police confirmed.
Three adult males who were in the Toyota Camry were transported to a local trauma centre, with one being transported via an emergency run. One male suffered serious injuries, while the other two suffered moderate to serious injuries.
A cyclist on the sidewalk on the northwest corner waiting for the light to turn green had both cars fly past and was struck by debris.
The intersection was shut down for several hours but has since re-opened.
