Canada’s Wonderland opening weekend overshadowed by several arrests, ‘unruly behaviour’

The 2023 opening of Canada’s Wonderland was overshadowed after police say they responded to reports of fights and robberies inside the popular theme park, resulting in several arrests.

A park spokesperson confirmed with CityNews that multiple people were escorted from the grounds on Saturday, May 6, following a number of altercations at Canada’s Wonderland.

“Park security and on-site York Region Police officers responded quickly and appropriately, and several arrests were made,” said Grace Peacock.

Videos shared on social media showed large crowds at Canada’s Wonderland with people sprinting towards Behemoth, one of the park’s more popular roller coasters. One video posted to TikTok shows at least one person being escorted by police.

“We have zero tolerance for this kind of behaviour as the safety of our guests and associates is always our top priority,” Peacock added.

It’s unclear how many arrests were made.

York Regional Police (YRP) told CityNews that while investigators can’t comment directly on the videos shared online, a spokesperson confirmed officers were called to Canada’s Wonderland on Saturday.

“Reports included disputes, robberies and assaults. Some of the investigations have been concluded, and others remain ongoing,” the YRP spokesperson said.

Canada’s Wonderland guests can report violations of the Guest Code of Conduct or suspicious activity to the nearest park associate or security associate or call 905-832-7535.

Canada’s Wonderland opened to the public on Friday. The theme park has announced two new rides — the Tundra Twister and Snoopy’s Racing Railway — expected to debut later in the month.
