Toronto man charged with 2nd-degree murder after assault victim dies in hospital

A man is facing a second-degree murder charge after a woman he allegedly violently assaulted in Scarborough died in hospital this week.

Toronto police were called to the Markham Road and Progress Avenue area around 11 a.m. on June 13.

It’s alleged a female victim was violently assaulted inside an apartment. She was rushed to a local trauma centre with critical injuries.

Investigators said the woman died in the hospital on Wednesday. She was identified as 29-year-old Yasmin Ali Mohamed of Toronto.

Police said 30-year-old Omar Kadeem Sharras Reynolds, also of Toronto, has been charged with second-degree murder.

It’s unclear if the accused and the female victim knew each other.

Reynolds was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday morning.
