Assaults and threats against parking enforcement officers in Toronto are on the rise as investigators made separate arrests in similar incidents in the city.
Police were notified of an assault on July 17, 2023, in the Yonge Street and Montgomery Avenue area just before 1 a.m. in Midtown Toronto.
It’s alleged that a city Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO) was conducting enforcement in the area, and when they were in the process of issuing a violation notice to an illegally parked vehicle, a man approached and threw a plastic water bottle toward the officer.

In a separate incident, Toronto police responded to a call in the Macpherson Avenue and Avenue Road area at around 9 a.m. on July 14, 2023.
It’s alleged that a PEO was performing their duties on Macpherson Avenue and, at around 8:50 a.m., requested that a group of construction workers move their vehicle from where it was illegally located on the sidewalk.
The officer passed by the location again and, at 9 a.m., issued a parking infraction notice to the vehicle, as it had not been moved.
Toronto police said the accused began to yell profanities and threatened the PEO.
