‘Did he just wipe out?’: Dash-cam video shows stunt-driving motorcyclist on Hwy. 407

Dash-cam footage captured by a driver on Highway 407 shows a motorcyclist speed by and crash moments later. The rider was charged with stunt driving, OPP said.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged a motorcyclist with stunt driving after dash-cam footage captured the rider travelling at high speeds and swerving between lanes before crashing on Highway 407.

OPP Highway Safety Division shared the footage on X. It shows multiple motorcycle riders passing vehicles on Hwy. 407 and Hwy. 400 in Vaughan just after noon on Sunday, Sept. 24.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle recording make note of the motorcyclists passing them at a dangerous speed. It then shows the moment a motorcycle rider crashes off the highway into a ditch.

“Did he just wipe out?” one woman is heard asking. “Yep.”

The footage then shows one driver pulling over to assist the motorcycle rider. The vehicle with the dash-cam footage also pulls over off the highway.

OPP says a 34-year-old motorcycle rider has been charged with stunt driving.

A police spokesperson says the rider was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Crashes involving motorcycles continue to rise across the province. According to data from OPP, between 2012 and 2021, officers responded to 326 fatal motorcycle collisions that killed 342 motorcyclists.

Cumulative data obtained through investigations determined that throughout the past decade, the motorcyclists who died were reportedly the “at-fault driver” in 60.7 per cent of the crashes. Concurrently, drivers of the other vehicles involved were found to be at fault 39.3 per cent of the time.
