Toronto police have charged a man for an assault that took place in July when the accused allegedly pinned a woman down and punched her repeatedly in Kensington Market.
Authorities were called to the Dundas Street West and Augusta Avenue area at around 3:30 a.m. on July 6, 2023, for reports of an assault.
Police said the man got into an altercation with a woman and threatened her with a knife. He then pinned her down and began to hit her in the face.
It’s alleged that when the victim attempted to fight back, the suspect held the woman’s neck and began to choke her.
It’s unclear if the man and woman were known to each other.
Police said 34-year-old Mason Groskopf was arrested on October 11. He’s been charged with three counts of mischief under $5,000, uttering threats, two counts of assault and assault with a weapon.
The accused was expected to appear in court on October 11.
