A man in his 40s is dead following an early morning shooting outside an after-hours club in Brampton.

Peel police say they were called to a plaza on Kennedy Road South and Stafford Drive around 4:15 a.m. where they located a man inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead.

Police say he is a man in his 40s from Toronto but have not released his name pending the notification of next of kin.

“Investigators at this point are at least confident that this is a targeted shooting, whether or not this was the intended target we don’t know that as of yet, that is part of the investigation,” said Peel police spokesperson Tyler Bell.

Police have yet to release any suspect information and are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the shooting to contact them.

“This area at the rear, an after-hours bar, was quite busy and at the time there was substantial pedestrian and vehicular traffic leaving the scene,” said Bell. “It’s too early to tell of the vehicles that were leaving if any of them were suspects or folks just fleeing gunfire.”
