Girl, 16, suffers life-threatening injuries after being struck by vehicle in Scarborough

A 16-year-old girl has been rushed to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries after she was struck by a vehicle in Scarborough.

Toronto police said it happened around 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday in the Markham Road and Blakemanor Boulevard area near Lawrence Avenue East.

Police say an 84-year-old man was driving a gray 2012 Ford pick-up truck northbound on Markham Road and the girl was struck as she crossed Markham Road from the eastside to the westside of the street.

Toronto paramedics initially told CityNews a 16-year-old girl was assessed and transported to a trauma centre with serious injuries. Police later updated her condition, saying the girl’s injuries were considered life-threatening.

The driver remained at the scene.

Markham Road was closed in both directions for the collision investigation but police said it has since reopened.
